The Right Way To Extract Pimples
Today’s topic is PIMPLES... blemishes, zits... fun stuff!
When I notice a pesky blemish surfacing, it’s so tempting to extract it myself. And, let’s be real, I often give in to that temptation. However, I’ve learned that my skin heals much better when I approach pimple-popping with a little *technique*.
Thanks to Chelsea's expert pimple-popping advice (which you can watch at the bottom of this email), here’s how I handle blemishes.
When I spot a blemish starting to form, I try to tackle it early with our Blemish Balm. I also love to spot-treat with the Detox Clay Mask, which often does the trick! If a zit is noticeably protruding, I’ll use our Glow Balm for an oil cleanse. Sometimes this method pulls out the whitehead or impurity right away. You can read more about how this works on our blog!
If my arsenal of pimple-fighting products doesn’t do the job because I've caught it too late, here’s my extraction method: always pull away from the skin when popping a pimple rather than pushing down into it. This technique reduces the risk of pushing bacteria deeper into the skin, which can lead to more breakouts and irritation. Remember, bacteria can easily spread both on the surface and beneath the skin, making healing more challenging and increasing the chance of scarring and more zits.
If you find yourself extracting a pimple, ensure that both your skin and hands are clean beforehand. After extraction, soothing your skin is crucial. Our Blemish Balm is fantastic for keeping pimples at bay and helping to heal them post-extraction. Packed with all-natural ingredients, it calms inflammation and helps diminish scarring before it starts. Also as mentioned above, our clay masks are tremendous at preventing pimples and helping clear up breakouts.
Now, let’s talk face-picking. I’ll admit it—I’m a recovering face picker, and I know the struggle all too well! Here are some tips that have helped me keep my fingers away from my face:
- Keep Your Hands Busy: Engage in activities to keep your hands occupied and be mindful of them. Remind yourself that it’s okay for your hands to stay still.
- Practice Good Skincare: Stick to a consistent skincare routine to help prevent breakouts in the first place.
- Use Spot Treatments: Apply targeted treatments directly to blemishes to reduce their appearance without picking.
